Care
Scentara® Double Blue Lilac Care
Choose a sunny site with good air circulation and well-drained soil. Lilacs prefer neutral to slightly alkaline conditions; if your soil is very acidic, consider adding garden lime per soil test recommendations. Avoid low, soggy areas—consistent moisture is fine, but wet feet are not.
Water regularly the first season to establish. Once established, water during extended dry spells—allow the top few inches of soil to dry between waterings. A thin layer of mulch helps conserve moisture and moderate soil temperature, but keep mulch pulled back from the stems.
Feed in early spring with a slow release fertilizer to support vigorous growth and bud development. Prune immediately after flowering—remove spent trusses and lightly shape to maintain form. Avoid heavy summer/fall pruning, which can remove next year’s flower buds.
For best flowering, site in full sun and avoid excessive high-nitrogen feeding. Older plants can be rejuvenated gradually by removing one or two of the oldest canes at the base right after bloom each year.

The botanical name is Syringa ‘Scentara® Double Blue’.
Is Scentara® Double Blue lilac deer resistant?
Generally, lilacs are considered deer resistant, with browsing uncommon compared to many other shrubs. Protection may still be helpful where pressure is high.
How and when should I prune Scentara® Double Blue?

What soil and pH are best for lilacs?

Yes—its nectar-rich spring flowers are highly attractive to bees and other beneficial pollinators.
How far apart should I plant Scentara® Double Blue?
For a single specimen, allow the full mature width (6' – 8'). For an informal row, space 6' – 7' on center; adjust slightly based on your desired density and airflow.
