Summary
Bathsheba turns a wall, arch, or fence into a romantic, fragrant centerpiece.
Its large, very double blooms — packed with well over a hundred petals — open in soft apricot and peach tones with a pinkish-cream reverse, arranged in the old-fashioned quartered form David Austin roses are loved for. A strong myrrh fragrance, warmed by honey and tea, carries on the air, and the flowers repeat from late spring through fall.
Introduced in 2016, Bathsheba is an upright, healthy climber that can reach eight to ten feet against a support, or be kept as a large freestanding shrub. Its combination of classic flower form, color, and fragrance on a manageable, well-behaved climber makes it one of the most sought-after modern English roses.
Care
David Austin® Bathsheba™ Climbing Rose Care
Plant Bathsheba in full sun, with light afternoon shade tolerated, in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost. Provide a sturdy wall, arch, fence, or pillar to train it on from the start.
Water deeply and regularly, especially while establishing and in dry spells. Feed with a slow release fertilizer in early spring and again after the first flush to support strong canes and repeat bloom.
Train the main canes outward and tie them in to encourage flowering along their length. Deadhead through the season, and prune in late winter by shortening side shoots and removing old or weak wood.
