Schefflera actinophylla 'Amate® Soleil'—a dwarf cultivar of Umbrella Plant—is a tropical evergreen shrub that's known for its beautiful, bright, large glossy leaves that have a very unique chartreuse (yellow-green) color.

Typical umbrella plants (standard Schefflera actinophylla) are typically fast growers that reach an average mature height of 25'. The 'Amate® Soleil' variety; however, is a slow to medium grower that reaches a mature height of around 10'. This difference of height and growth rate makes the Schefflera Amate a fantastic houseplant or patio plant option. 

In addition to providing year-round beauty, Schefflera Amate is known to purify the air of a variety of toxins such as benzene, formaldehyde and toluene.

Care

Schefflera Care

Schefflera actinophylla 'Amate® Soleil' is typically grown as a houseplant. It also does great as a patio plant or outdoor tropical. It should not be exposed to temperatures below 50°F for any prolonged period of time. 

Schefflera Amate is known to tolerate full sun, but does best with bright, indirect light or an area that is partially shaded (with the shade blocking strong afternoon sun). 

Fertilize as required, especially if planted in poor soil. Potted plants should be given regular fertilizations between the months of April and September. Winter fertilizations may be given, but should not be as strong.  Our slow release plant food is a good fertilizer option. 

Keep its soil moist, but not wet. Irrigate during establishment, and during periods of drought. 

Does best in temperatures between 65°F and 95°F.

Toxicity and Risks of Schefflera

Schefflera actinophylla 'Amate® Soleil' is known for its toxicity to both people and to pets.

Vomiting, diarrhea, excessive salivation, abdominal pain, kidney failure, and/or death can occur after the ingestion of this plant's sap—which contains needle-shaped crystals of calcium oxalate called raphides (known to cause kidney stones in humans). Chewing or biting into this plant will release crystal filled sap causing tissue penetration and irritation the mouth and GI tract.

Allergic dermatitis (skin inflammation) and swelling of the skin can occur after repeated skin exposure to this sap.
