A long-blooming, low-maintenance perennial that thrives in tough conditions!

Walker's Low Catmint (Nepeta × faassenii 'Walker's Low') is a durable, clump-forming perennial prized for its profuse lavender-blue flowers and fragrant, gray-green foliage. Despite its name, this variety grows taller than expected, reaching up to 30 inches in height and spreading outward up to 36 inches, forming a graceful, mounded habit.

From late spring to early fall, this plant produces an abundance of small, tubular flowers that attract butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. Walker’s Low is especially prized for its extended bloom period, often reblooming after a light trim. Its foliage remains ornamental throughout the season, offering soft texture and movement in the landscape.

Highly drought-tolerant, deer-resistant, and easy to maintain, Walker’s Low Catmint thrives in various conditions, making it a favorite for low-maintenance gardens, pollinator gardens, and rock gardens. It was honored as the Perennial Plant of the Year in 2007 by the Perennial Plant Association for its exceptional performance in landscapes.

    Walker's Low Catmint Care

Provide full sun for the best flowering and growth. While it can tolerate part shade, too much shade may result in fewer blooms and a leggier growth habit.

Plant in well-drained, average to dry soil. Walker’s Low is adaptable to poor, sandy, or rocky soils and does well in urban environments. Avoid heavy, wet soils, as they can cause root rot.

Water regularly during the first growing season to establish strong roots. Once mature, Walker’s Low is highly drought-tolerant and thrives with minimal watering.

Fertilization is generally not required, but in nutrient-poor soils, an early spring application of a slow-release fertilizer can support healthy growth. Our slow release fertilizer is a great option.

Shear back spent flowers after the initial bloom cycle to encourage reblooming and maintain a tidy appearance. Cutting the plant back by about half in midsummer often results in a fresh flush of flowers and foliage.

Space plants 24 to 36 inches apart to allow for good airflow and prevent overcrowding.
