Care

Purple Clematis Care

Provide full sun or partial sun. Too little light will cause growth issues. Clematis often like to have their roots in the shade and their growth in the sun.

Fertilization is suggested, especially if soil is poor. Our slow release fertilizer is a great option.

We suggest pruning 2-3 times throughout the season (after established) to encourage a dense, well branched and full-bodied plant; avoid cutting into thick stems.

Cut back in the late fall or early spring and leave about 18" to 24" of base plant remaining.

Water regularly, especially after planting prior to establishment. Attempt to keep soil moist, but not wet. It's suggested to place 2"-3" of rice hulls (or mulch) under this plant to help retain a light degree of ground moisture and to prevent the growth of weeds around the base.
