Grow Happy™ Plant Insurance
We’re a small, grower-run nursery in Pennsylvania, and we stand behind every plant we ship. While we pack each order with care, carriers do not insure or cover damage to live plants in transit. To protect your purchase — and to keep replacement costs fair and sustainable for a small nursery like ours — we include Grow Happy™ Plant Insurance with every order. Grow Happy™ Plant Insurance is a replacement program designed specifically for live plants — not a cash-refund policy.
Grow Happy™ Healthy Arrival Insurance
Every plant purchased on our website is insured to arrive healthy and true to variety. If you believe a plant has arrived with major damage or is non-viable, please contact us within 24 hours of delivery with clear photos of:
- The entire plant
- Close-ups of the issue
- The pot/roots
- The packing slip
- The outside of the shipping box (multiple angles)
- The inside of the shipping box including all packing materials
If we determine the condition was caused by a packing or quality issue on our end — we will replace it at no cost, including free shipping.
If the damage appears related to carrier handling, crushing, delays, or other transit issues, your Healthy Arrival Insurance may still qualify you for a replacement. Because carriers do not cover live plants, carrier-related replacements require a small customer contribution: a 30% coinsurance payment based on the replacement plant’s current retail price, plus shipping. We cover the remaining 70% and grow or source the replacement for you.
Grow Happy™ Extended Plant Insurance (Eligible Outdoor Plants)
Many hardy outdoor plants — such as perennials, shrubs, and trees — automatically include Grow Happy™ Extended Plant Insurance. When a plant is covered, the insurance term will be clearly labeled on the product page (for example: “💚 One Full Year of Grow Happy™ Plant Insurance Included”).
The coverage period begins on the date your order is shipped, not the date it is received or planted.
If an eligible outdoor plant dies within the insured period — despite being planted promptly, cared for appropriately, and grown within its recommended USDA zone — you may submit a one-time insurance claim for a replacement plant.
Insurance coverage requires reasonable care, including:
- Proper planting depth and soil conditions
- Appropriate watering
- Protection from extreme weather when possible
Plants must be planted within a reasonable timeframe after delivery (generally within 7–10 days unless weather prevents planting). Plants held unplanted for extended periods are not eligible for coverage.
If the exact variety or size is unavailable at the time of an approved claim, we may at our discretion:
- Provide a comparable plant as a substitute, or
- Grow or source new replacements and ship them within one year of your original ship date.
Extended Plant Insurance includes one replacement per plant purchased.
Minor vs. Major Damage
Live plants are natural, and some variation or light wear from shipping is normal. Insurance applies to non-viable plants — not those with minor cosmetic imperfections.
Examples of minor damage (not covered):
- A few broken, bent, or yellowing leaves
- Minor tears, small spots, or cosmetic blemishes
- Light insect nibbling on a small portion of the foliage
Examples of major damage (may be covered):
- Severely crushed plants or those with most foliage destroyed
- Plants arriving dry, crispy, or without live tissue
- Damage that clearly renders the plant non-viable
We review each claim individually and may request additional information to determine the extent of the issue.
What Isn’t Covered
Houseplants and annuals are covered by Healthy Arrival Insurance only and are not included in Extended Plant Insurance.
The following are not covered under any Grow Happy™ Plant Insurance policy:
- Planting outside recommended USDA zones
- Poor drainage, underwatering, overwatering, or delayed planting
- Extreme weather (heat waves, drought, cold snaps, hail, storms, wind, etc.)
- Animal or pest damage after planting
- Damage from lawn equipment, chemicals, salt, or accidents
- Minor cosmetic damage or normal variation
- Plants purchased through third-party platforms (Etsy, Shop, etc.)
- Wholesale orders
Dormant Plants
Many hardy plants naturally ship dormant in fall, winter, or early spring. Dormancy may look like brown stems, leafless plants, or a “dead” appearance. This is normal and is not considered a defect under Grow Happy™ Plant Insurance.
Submitting a Grow Happy™ Insurance Claim
To submit a claim, please contact us through our contact form with your order number, a description of the issue, and clear photos as outlined above.
Approved claims — both Healthy Arrival and Extended — are fulfilled with replacement plants only and may take additional time if the plant is out of season or temporarily out of stock. We do not offer refunds or store credit for insurance claims.
For most replacements — including carrier-related Healthy Arrival claims and all Extended Insurance claims — the customer is responsible for:
- The cost of shipping the replacement
- A 30% coinsurance payment based on the replacement’s current full website price
Original shipping fees are non-refundable.
Replacement plants do not receive a new insurance period.
