Nigra Thuja Care

Ensure exposure to full sun or partial shade, with a preference for full sun, particularly in cooler regions. Excessive shade can lead to growth complications, while a bit of afternoon shade might be advantageous in warmer areas.

Fertilizing is recommended, especially in less fertile soils. Our slow release fertilizer is an excellent choice for this purpose.

Thuja Nigra naturally forms a dense, conical shape with a pyramid-like top. You can trim new growth to maintain shape in late spring, aligning with the plant's inherent growth pattern. It's important to water well after trimming to avoid the browning of tips. Avoid cutting back too aggressively or into the thick stems, as this can lead to a prolonged recovery period.

If the tree starts to develop multiple leaders, choose a single central leader and prune the others more severely to discourage their growth, allowing the selected leader to dominate. For an optimal shape, it's crucial to guide the plant's growth rather than allowing it to grow unchecked.
