Care
Windflower Care
Japanese Anemone is known to be very low maintenance and requires minimum care.
Prune to control growth as necessary. Cut down to 2" above ground level in late fall after blooming has ended. Cover with mulch, straw, or leaves in cold climates. Remove covering in early spring.
Propagation is best accomplished through division once the base of the flowers begin to crowd. This typically happens after about 4 years of growth. We suggest doing such division in the spring.
Fertilizations will accelerate growth and keep your plant well fed. We suggest using our slow release fertilizer, or something similar.
Japanese Anemone prefers full sun, but it also does well in areas of partial shade.
Water regularly after planting until established, or in periods of drought.
Is known to tolerate a variety of poor soil conditions, although ideal soil is moist, rich, and well-draining. Avoid prolonged exposure to wet soil over winter.
Removing spent flowers after blooming is finished will keep your plant looking well-maintained and will also promote additional blooms.
