The semi-dwarf version of the legendary Emerald Green Arborvitae!

Thuja occidentalis 'Thusid4'—commonly referred to as Emerald Petite Arborvitae—is a dense, feathery arb that proves great things do, in fact, come in small packages! It's often said to have better growth habit and stronger hardiness than the famous Emerald Green arborvitae!

This compact arb is perfect for adding color and texture to any landscape, while also providing privacy and noise reduction. With a high survival rate and low maintenance needs, it's a great addition to any outdoor space!

Perfect when grown in rows, groups, or as a stand-alone specimen!

Excellent cold-hardiness and winter color, plus it's resistant to winter burn!

Maintains shape without pruning.

Very hardy and durable in the landscape.

Excellent holiday or winter interest for patios and containers.

Native to North America.

Semi-Dwarf Arborvitae Care

Provide full sun to partial shade. Too much shade will cause growth issues. Partial (afternoon) shade may be beneficial when growing in hotter climates.

Fertilization is suggested, especially if soil is poor. Our slow release fertilizer is a great option.

Naturally grows in a dense, cylindrical pattern with a pyramidal top section. New growth may be trimmed to shape in late spring, following plant’s natural habit. Keep well-watered after trimming to prevent browning of edges. Do not cut too hard or cut into thick stems, which will result in slow recovery.

More trimming may be required if multiple leaders develop. In this case, select a central leader and trim surrounding growth more drastically to suppress it and allow the chosen leader to take shape. For the best form, do not let the plant decide how it should grow – impose the shape on it once and it should stick.

Water regularly, especially after planting prior to establishment. Attempt to keep soil moist but not wet.

This arborvitae prefers soil that is well draining.

Space 2' apart at a minimum.
