Rubus 'Ouachita'also known as Ouachita Thornless Blackberry—is an erect, self-pollinating blackberry plant that's known for its delicious berries and thornless canes.

It produces attractive white flowers in the spring which are known to attract pollinators. These flowers, throughout summer, turn into medium sized, juicy, firm, extremely sweet, deep purplish black berries.

This is an "erect" variety of blackberry plant, which means that it will grow in somewhat of a shrublike manner, and does not require trellising. It should be noted; however, that the support of a trellis will help these plants grow neater which will make harvesting easier.

Ouachita Thornless Blackberry is self-pollinating. As such, you'll only need one plant in order to ensure berry production. It should be noted that we still suggest planting three or more of these plants close together (around 3' - 4' apart) to help promote pollination and increase yields per plant.

Heat tolerant and disease-resistant to Rosette Disease.

Typically begins to produce fruit in its second year of growth.

Blackberry Plant Care

Fertilizations will accelerate growth and keep your plant well fed. We suggest using our slow release fertilizer, or something similar.

Grow in full sun.

Attempt to keep soil moist but not wet. Mulching the base of the plant with untreated mulch will help ensure moist, cool soil.

Water regularly after planting until established, or in periods of drought. Its ideal soil is moist, rich, loamy, and well draining.

Remove old, dead canes as they appear.

This is an erect, bush variety of blackberry and does not require trellising. A trellis; however, will provide additional support for the bush and help the plant grow in a neat fashion.
