Summary
Big presence, bigger berry show. Gin Fizz® Juniper stacks thousands of blue, gin-worthy “berries” against dense green foliage on a naturally upright, conical frame—an easy, deer-resistant hedge or specimen with year-round swagger.
Use it where structure matters: anchoring corners, flanking drives, or lining property edges. Its rugged constitution and low maintenance make it a smart alternative to arborvitae in sunny, drier spots.
Proven Winners® breeding means reliable performance with minimal fuss—just sun, drainage, and a little space to show off.
Care
Gin Fizz® Juniper Care
Choose a sunny site with excellent drainage; junipers dislike soggy soil. Gravelly or rocky ground is fine. Avoid irrigation overspray and low spots that stay wet.
Water regularly the first season to establish a deep root system. Once established, water only during extended dry spells.
Feed in early spring with a light application of slow release fertilizer if desired; heavy fertilizing is unnecessary.
Pruning is rarely needed. If shaping, make selective cuts after new growth hardens; avoid cutting back into thick, old wood.
For a solid hedge, space plants about 7' – 10' on center. Give more room for stand-alone specimens to allow airflow and showcase their form.

Additional Information
What is the botanical name of Gin Fizz®?
Juniperus chinensis ‘RIKAG’ — Proven Winners® ColorChoice® (PP31,994).
Is Gin Fizz® deer resistant?
Yes. Junipers are generally deer resistant, and Gin Fizz® is a strong choice where browsing pressure is an issue.
Does Gin Fizz® need a male pollinator for berries?
No. It fruits abundantly without a separate pollinator.
How and when should I prune Gin Fizz®?
Minimal pruning is best. If needed, lightly shape after new growth has firmed up. Do not cut into old, bare wood.
How far apart should I plant Gin Fizz®?
Hedges: space about 7' – 10' on center depending on how quickly you want them to knit. Single specimens: allow full mature width for best form and airflow.
